COMIC UPDATE w/ OmegaSlice | NCBD! Comic Book Pulls July 10 2024 [[Gerry Duggan Care Package]]

It has been a while since posting any pulls, recording and editing can be a drag, especially when working on a machine that was mid even in 2015. Go sub to the YouTube ! https://youtu.be/2FcTToa-VaQ and imagine this like the companion blog ?

However, trips to the OC have been way more fun since visiting Jeff on new comic book day at Coffee and a Comic.

This week was a mix of new books, some delayed issues, a fresh trade and a sick ass package from Gerry Duggan! I have been browsing Bluesky to connect with more comic book creators and sure enough Everyone Has a Substack. So this guy was promoting a subscription to his Substack for a year and he'll send out a little care package. He was promising (air quotes, expectations blur reality) the variant cover for issue one of Falling In Love On The Path To Hell, which you have to see, it is so fucking cool. I wish I was hip to requesting variants ahead of time but I like the rush of seeing them in the shop, if they are available, but this is just another example of how I fucking sleep on things.

Falling In Love On The Path To Hell - variant

Anyway this week - we got a fresh copy of this months Comic Shop News, which I don't normally get from Coffee and a Comic - that is something I usually see at Comic Madness in Chino, like once a month.

An FCBD issue was thrown in, nearly 10 weeks after Free Comic Book Day 2024.

We have been reading and collecting some Manga as of late, mainly books by Osamu Tezuka. With a gift card from our good friend Kris, which he gifted for me for my birthday a few weeks ago, I decided to put in the order for "Shakespeare Manga Theater". Currently, I am reading the Dororo Omnibus - the fattest book in the collection, second to the unabridged Webster dictionary we got. But another thing that I couldn't pass up recently was a price drop on the entire 8-book TP Buddha set. I don't know how I am going to tackle that plus keeping up with the weekly pulls, maybe this site will motivate me to stick with it. Anyway, it'll be a long ass time before I crack open this book of Shakespearean tales.

It has been a while since Kill Your Darlings, the series from Image, has been done with, but finally cover B of issue 8 arrived. Jeff had already sold me on cover A a week or two before so now we got a fresh copy for the collection.

Dawnrunner 4 is out this week, and you should be hyped on it. I am a stan for anything Ram V and I spent the morning after Father's day getting through Dawnrunner 1-3 and then getting all caught up on The One Hand and The Six Fingers, the other joint he is kinda writing with Dan Watters.

I enjoy most of what Mad Cave puts out and Morning Star was one of those books I initially got for the variant cover done by Skylar Patridge but never committed to my pull. Yet, weeks later a strange thing happened with issue 3 appearing in my box. Luckily the shop was able to secure issue 2 so I picked em up both together. My OCD couldn't handle knowing that I had an issue 1 and 3 waiting, with issue 4 looming, without any confirmation that we'd get 2 secured. Issue 4 of Morning Star is out this week. Like Duggan's post, pleading buyers to read his books first - I think other creators gotta start crying out for the same.

Kaya has a mini catch up book - the story so far. So rad, glad to see when that book hits the shelves. It is one of the on-going series that we are collecting but not reading consistently. Eventually we will catch up.

Get Fury is one of the very FEW Marvel books I am reading or collecting, mainly because Jeff was so hyped on it from the jump but also I think it is a sick ass intro to me reading Garth Ennis. I know I have a Creepshow book with his name on it, but I am looking forward to the new anthology series "Hello Darkness" from Boom!

Transformers and the Energon Universe is just so fucking rad to have jumped into at the moment of reading and collecting when I did. Immediately had a major hard-on for Daniel Warren Johnson after issue 1 of Transformers, and we'll have to talk about Do a Powerbomb some other time.

Our new on-going darling, Falling In Love On The Path To Hell issue 2 is out and there is a three-peat being released for issue one that is just gorgeous. I might have to add it to the collection since...we ended up getting the second print!!...

The sticker is always at the bottom of the bag. Go visit CoffeeAndAComic.com !

Garry doesn't fuck around when he says he's going to do something - unboxing of the care package he delivered after joining his Substack! https://youtu.be/2FcTToa-VaQ?si=ZSm2yO3v9YwWB9Hw
